I'm also really looking forward to this feature
Hello! A few weeks ago you mentioned that this feature is under development and available around end of July. Any update when it will be released?
This feature is not yet implemented.
Actually it is going to take more time to deliver support for user defined datatypes or domains.
Currently we focusing on "Undo" feature which is taking little longer than expected. It is very tough to provide any timeline for "user defined datatypes or domains" at this time.
Sorry for inconvenience.
Ok, in that case we won't be using your product and stay with ERwin.
There is another idea ticket, which is talking about same feature.
Please take a look: https://support.sqldbm.com/communities/1/topics/1-user-defined-data-types-or-domains
I read and voted that idea ticket. But it's don't meet my idea.
I want to design a table as though it's a class in object-oriented programming languages or a prototype in prototype-based programming languages.
Should I list details for what I want?
Sure, please list out details, and create new Idea ticket. We will review it, also other users can see and vote on it, which will help us to prioritize it in our development queue.
Thanks for your suggestion and trying SqlDBM.
Any progress? This is a MUST have for any serious data modeler. Need to be able to create user defined types - and also reverse engineer supporting user defined types.
The lack of Domain support was definitely a showstopper for me when I was evaluating SqlDBM. I don't really care about user defined types, but ability to use Domains in the model, and change type of all attributes of a model from one type to another by simply changing a type of Domain is a must.
Our current models (biggest one has 780 entities) use following user-defined data types:
PERCENTAGE
AMOUNT
CODE
DISPLAY_NAME
LONG_NAME
LONG_TEXT
FLAG
NUMBER
etc.
I don't think that domains are good enough - too broad.
but why not allow both - some people will like the DOMAIN concept, I prefer user defined types. Most probably just a matter of having a property on data model level.
Hello SQLDBM team. Any update on the progress of this request? I have one week left to register for the team version but without a timeframe of when user defined data types are available I can't make a decision. Tx!
Sorry for the inconvenience and for late reply
This feature is not yet implemented, you can see the roadmap here https://sqldbm.com/RoadMap/
Thanks,
Team - SqlDBM
and still waiting. It was promised by Ed 2 times already.
+1 requesting this feature

I have now cancelled my SQLDBM subscription. Keeping ERwin.
Having a domains like ERWin or ER/Studio would be huge. I think templates can do some of this...but being able to set domains would be terrific as well. Templates are better for standard audit columns and are great for that, Domains we can set up while we are adding fields. We may want to qualify the name or override the definition.
Thanks for this idea, Neil. I'll forward this to the product team and they will investigate how we could add support for this.
Thanks again!
Hello SqlDBM Community,
As part of the second installment of our Logical Modeling feature, this will be an enhancement and we are looking forward to releasing this by the end of Q1 of next year (2023). Thank you as always for everyone's support and ideas!
