Feature Request: The Analyze View function does not indicate which view, or views, have errors.

Brad 4 months ago updated by hannah gryska 1 month ago 7

When the Analyze view function is executed, and it indicates there are errors in a few, SqlDBM doesn't appear to indicate / flag which views has an issue, or what the specific error is.

If a data model diagram has many views, it's very difficult and time consuming to manually look at each view and try to guess what SqlDBM is objecting to, then make a change to see if that corrects it.
Rather SqlDBM should clearly indicate which view(s) have error, and what the actual error is.

Here is an error message for 1 view, when there are many in the diagram. No idea which one nor the issue.,

Hi Brad,

You bring a great point to the table. Thank you for identifying this issue with us. I will bring this up with the products team. I will keep you updated on the progress.

Thanks,
Retinder Labana

This is preventing creation / usage of views within a project, if there is more than 1 view and therefor delaying release of data modeling to development. Could this be escalated to a Bug, or a higher priority?

Hi Brad,

I understand the importance of this. I am meeting with the products team later today to discuss this specifically. Please wait till then for further updates on this. I have already marked this as our highest-priority ticket.

Thanks,
Retinder Labana

Hi Brad,

A little update on this, can you please provide screenshots of what you see on your end?

I tested this but then is what I am getting.
- List of errors at errors and warning
- when double clicked on it, it takes you to the View that has that issue
- You can also see which views have a problem with red dots as you can see in the image shared below.

Hey Retinder!  I am having the same errors, I don't see where the error is occurring .  I don't have a red dot, nor do I see anything at the bottom of my screen for errors and warnings.  However, I do see the message above for 1 view.

I know the views technically work as well as we test them on the DB.

Hi Retinder, when I accidentally copied and renamed a view to the exact same name I copied to, the views were highlighted in errors.  However, after fixed that, it still said I had errors but didn't know the view.  I hope that this helps.

Hi Neil, thanks for letting us know! I will submit this as a private ticket, since we aren't able to recreate this issue on our end (ours showcased the errors with the red dots and error messages!). This could potentially be a bug, but to further investigate we may need some more information from you. Thank you!!
