The dashboard is the landing page for users logging in to SqlDBM. From here, you can create a new project, review existing projects, or navigate to account settings.
Projects can now be organized in folders
The Dashboard Folders feature uses forward slashes ("/") in project names to organize projects into folders on the dashboard. If your project names contain forward slashes, they will be displayed as folders on the dashboard.
Action Required: If your project names do not contain forward slashes, or if you use forward slashes to represent project hierarchies, no action is needed. However, if you do use forward slashes in project names outside these contexts, please change the separator to another character.
There is no deadline for this update, as project names will remain editable after the release.
Dashboard layout
The Dashboard is made up of three main areas:
- Left panel — Tree explorer — navigate folders and filter projects by category.
- Center — Recent and Starred cards — quick access to recently opened and starred projects.
- Projects table — the full list of projects and folders, with sorting and search.
The Search bar and Create project button are located in the upper right area of the page.
Tree explorer
The tree explorer on the left provides navigation across all projects and folders. It can be collapsed using the collapse icon to give more space to the projects table.
Folders are listed in alphabetical order. Clicking the chevron next to a folder expands or collapses it without changing the current table view. Selecting a folder displays its contents in the projects table.
The following predefined filters are always available at the bottom of the tree explorer:
- Starred — projects marked as starred.
- Created by me — projects created by the current user.
- Shared with me — projects shared by other users.
- Global — global projects. Only if you have Global modeling enabled for the account.
- Archived — archived projects.
Recent and Starred cards
Two quick-access cards are displayed above the project's table when no folder or filter is selected.
Recent — displays up to three of the most recently opened projects, retrieved from the browser cache.
Starred — displays up to three of the most recently starred projects. For Concurrent Working (CW) projects, a chevron icon allows access to the project branches directly from the card. The See all link opens the Starred filter in the projects table.
Note: The Recent and Starred cards are hidden when a folder or filter is selected in the tree explorer.
Project table
The projects table displays all accessible projects and folders. By default, folders are listed alphabetically at the top, followed by projects sorted by last updated date (newest first).
Each row displays:
- Name — folder name, or project name with its folder path shown underneath.
- Owner — the project owner and the number of users with access.
- Last updated — date and time of the last change.
- Draft label — shown if a draft version exists.
- Global label — shown for global projects.
- Star icon — shown for starred projects.
The table can be sorted by Project name, Owner, or Last updated. Folders and projects are always sorted as two separate groups — folders appear first when sorting ascending, and last when sorting descending. Sorting is preserved for the session.
Project search
A search bar is available in the upper right of the Dashboard to help quickly locate projects when faced with a large list of projects. Search is performed across all folders and project names.
When a filter is active (e.g., Starred, Archived), search only returns results within that filter. The search bar label reflects the active context — for example, "Search starred projects" or "Search archived projects".
Folders
Projects can be organized into folders using / as a separator in the project name. For example, naming a project Finance/Reporting/Q1 will place the project Q1nested under Reporting inside Finance.
Folders are not created separately — they are derived automatically from the project name. A folder exists as long as it contains at least one accessible project.
Project naming
Assigning a folder during project creation
When creating a new project, a folder path can be specified as part of the project name using / as a delimiter.
Moving a project to a different folder
A project can be moved to a different folder by editing its name in the tool. Updating the path portion of the name moves the project to the corresponding folder.
Renaming a project
Project names and folder paths can be changed from the tool, when editing the project’s name.
The following validations apply:
- The project name cannot be empty or end with /.
- The project name must be unique within its folder.
- // is not a valid path separator - any number of sequential /, or / divided with spaces
For Concurrent Working (CW) projects, renaming is not yet available, but it will be coming soon. Project branch names cannot be renamed from either the Dashboard or the tool.
Star a project
Pinned projects are now considered as starred.
To star or unstar a project, navigate to the dotted menu to the right of a project and select the "Star/Unstar" option.
Starred projects appear in the Starred card and the Starred filter.
Archive
To file away older projects, you have the archive option. Archived projects are not immediately visible on the dashboard but are still permanently accessible, including full revision history, from the "Archived" section.
Navigate to the dotted menu to the right of any existing project and select the "Archive" option.
View and Restore Archived Projects
You can view all your archived projects by selecting the "Archived" option from the tree explorer.
To restore an archived project, navigate to the dotted menu to the right of an archived project and select the "Restore" option.
Copy Project
You can copy any existing project, including its last three revisions.
To copy a project, navigate to the dotted menu to the right of a project and select the "Copy" option.
A new project will automatically be created and you will be taken directly to the diagram.
Delete a Project
To delete a project, navigate to the dotted menu to the right of a project and select the "Delete" option. You will see a confirmation popup. Please type "Delete", if you are sure the project with all data should be removed.
