What drives credit consumption, and why did our burn rate go up?
Every Copilot request uses credits. How many depends on how much text the AI reads and writes: your message, the conversation so far, any attached files or images, and the reply. For details on how credits are allocated and tracked, see Manage AI Credits in SqlDBM AI.
Usage usually goes up because of:
- Long conversations. Each new message carries the whole conversation with it, so later messages cost more.
- Attachments with a lot of content. What counts is how much text the file contains, not its file size.
What does Copilot cost once the included credits run out, and how do we buy more?
Each Copilot-enabled account starts with 5,000 credits, and more are available in four package sizes. When the balance reaches zero, Copilot stops accepting new requests until credits are added. To buy more credits, contact our sales team.
What can we do to reduce credit consumption?
- Start a new chat when you move to a new topic.
- Attach only the files Copilot needs, and keep them short.
- Describe things in text rather than with images where you can.
Copilot caches project context and message history between messages, so you don't pay full price for the same context on every turn.
Can we see a per-token breakdown of what the AI costs versus what SqlDBM charges?
Not today. Copilot shows credits used against your total, with no per-request token or cost breakdown.
